Drone

A musical effect created by a sound that is either continuously sustained or constantly repeated. It can be produced by either harmonic combinations of notes or monophony and may continue throughout the musical piece or be used in part of it. Either instrumental or vocal, the drone effect may act as accompaniment to the main melody. The term 'drone' is also used for any part of a musical instrument used to make this effect.

Duṣamā

Unhappy period of time. The fifth of the six stages of a regressive half-cycle in Jain notions of time.

Duṣamā-duṣamā

Extremely unhappy period of time. The last of the six stages of a regressive half-cycle in Jain notions of time.

Duṣamā-suṣamā

More unhappy than happy period of time. The third of the six stages of a regressive half-cycle or of a progressive half-cycle in Jain notions of time.

Island or, by extension, continent, for instance Jambū-dvīpa, 'Rose-Apple Tree Continent'.
